We have not been posting on this site in a while, it’s not because the news has gotten better, it’s actually because we have tried to expand the reader base by opening other sites, unfortunately, the highest reader stats are still from here, of course, nothing wrong with that, but the word needs to be spread amongst the people. If the people don’t wake up and realize the way their world is manipulated on a daily bases, then all hope is lost. Below is a BBC interview with a stock trader and it is jaw dropping. It’s a big word that accounts for why Americans have a hard time to believe in the immense dishonesty and corruption that exists in our government today. I guess you could tell people that it is raining outside, they wouldn’t believe you, then they would go outside and get hit by the rain, then they would tell you it’s only the wind blowing the sea breeze off the water! Of course this inclination to turn one’s blind eye to the facts is fostered and promoted by those in power (the winners write history and educate the masses). We are looking at the last days of the great human experience called Democracy. There has been manipulations of events locally and world-wide to create mass hysteria that will allow leaders to descend into the recesses of the underworld and destroy our freedoms in the name of protection. BEWARE MY FELLOW AMERICANS, John F. Kennedy spoke these ten words: “The high office of President has been used to forment a plot to destroy the American’s freedom, and before I leave office I must inform the citizen of his plight” -John F. Implications of the Patriot Act

We would do well to review elements of the USA Patriot Act, passed by Congress a month after the September 11th attacks. Among other things, the new law made it a crime for anybody to contribute money or material support for a group that appeared on the Terror Watch List. It allowed the FBI to monitor and tape-record conversations between attorneys and clients, once considered privileged. It let the FBI order librarians to turn over information about people’s reading habits. And it opened the door for government surveillance on our e-mails and snail-mails.Condensed and excerpted

So it’s no surprise that the Bush Administration soon embarked on an illegal wiretapping program, a story that the New York Times sat on for a year before finally publishing it. The National Security Agency (NSA) set up a secret room in downtown San Francisco under the auspices of AT&T, where the NSA could tap into the telecom giant’s fiber-optic cables. These weren’t just part of AT&T, but connected their network to Sprint, Global Crossing and other companies (including Qwest, which had refused to play ball).

According to former AT&T technician Mark Klein, the result was “a complete copy of the data stream.” It all went through NSA headquarters at Fort Meade, ten miles outside D.C., where the agency has a “colossal Cray supercomputer, code-named the ‘Black Widow.’” (Don’t you love all these “black” designations?) This supercomputer is capable of scanning “millions of domestic and international phone calls and e-mails per hour performing hundreds of trillions of calculations per second. [It] searches through and reassembles key words and patterns, across many languages.” They targeted certain journalists and basically vacuumed in all the domestic communications of Americans, including faxes, phone calls and Internet traffic. Code-named Pinwale, the NSA’s secret database even scooped up the private e-mails of former President Clinton.

Abu Zubaydah’s suffering

Torture or not, a human being was shattered for life by actions that in no way reflect who we are as a people.

Lately, we’ve heard and read much about torture memos, waterboarding and insects in a box. It has been the occasion for somber reflection on our past and serious deliberation about our future. This is as it should be. It was Arizona Sen. John McCain, in talking about torture, who rightly reminded us that “it’s not about who they are. It’s about who we are.”

But perhaps we also should remember that there was a human being strapped to that board. His name is Zayn al Abidin Mohamed Hussein, known to the world as Abu Zubaydah.

Dust-Up: What the Bush memos reveal

He was arrested in Pakistan in March 2002. Because the Bush administration believed him to be a senior Al Qaeda operative, his detention and interrogation produced a fistful of firsts. As far as we can tell, he is the only prisoner in U.S. history whose interrogation was the subject of debate and direct authorization within the White House, and the first to disappear into a secret CIA “black site.”
 He was the first prisoner in the “war on terror” to experience the full gamut of ancient techniques adapted by the communists in Korea and, 50 years later, approved by the Justice Department in Washington. He was the first prisoner to have his interrogations captured on videotape — a practice the CIA ended in late 2002. Two years later, the agency destroyed 90 videotapes of Abu Zubaydah’s interrogations, which resulted in a criminal investigation of government officials connected with the program.
 Many questions about his interrogation remain unanswered, but two legs of the three-legged stool are firmly in place.

First, they beat him. As authorized by the Justice Department and confirmed by the Red Cross, they wrapped a collar around his neck and smashed him over and over against a wall. They forced his body into a tiny, pitch-dark box and left him for hours. They stripped him naked and suspended him from hooks in the ceiling. They kept him awake for days.

And they strapped him to an inverted board and poured water over his covered nose and mouth to “produce the sensation of suffocation and incipient panic.” Eighty-three times. I leave it to others to debate whether we should call this torture. I am content with the self-evident truth that it was wrong.

Second, his treatment was motivated by the bane of our post-9/11 world: rotten intel. The beat him because they believed he was evil. Not long after his arrest, President Bush described him as “one of the top three leaders” in Al Qaeda and “Al Qaeda’s chief of operations.” In fact, the CIA brass at Langley, Va., ordered his interrogators to keep at it long after the latter warned that he had been wrung dry.

But Abu Zubaydah, we now understand, was nothing like what the president believed. He was never Al Qaeda. The journalist Ron Suskind was the first to ask the right questions. In his 2006 book, “The One Percent Doctrine,” he described Abu Zubaydah as a minor logistics man, a travel agent.

Later and more detailed reporting in the Washington Post, quoting Justice Department officials, said he provided “above-ground support. … To make him the mastermind of anything is ridiculous.” More recently, the New York Times, relying on current and former intelligence officers, said the initial assessment was “highly inflated” and reflected “a profound misunderstanding” of Abu Zubaydah. Far from a leader, he was “a personnel clerk.”

So two legs of the stool are fixed: They tormented a clerk. But there is a third leg that should not be left out. No one can pass unscathed through an ordeal like this. Abu Zubaydah paid with his mind.

Partly as a result of injuries he suffered while he was fighting the communists in Afghanistan, partly as a result of how those injuries were exacerbated by the CIA and partly as a result of his extended isolation, Abu Zubaydah’s mental grasp is slipping away.

Today, he suffers blinding headaches and has permanent brain damage. He has an excruciating sensitivity to sounds, hearing what others do not. The slightest noise drives him nearly insane. In the last two years alone, he has experienced about 200 seizures.

But physical pain is a passing thing. The enduring torment is the taunting reminder that darkness encroaches. Already, he cannot picture his mother’s face or recall his father’s name. Gradually, his past, like his future, eludes him.

McCain was right: It’s about who we are. And we are not people who do this to another human being.

George was just sitting down to some tv when Laura came in. Crap, he thought, hiding his beer. “Did you look for a job today?” Laura asked, eying his beer. Bush rolled his eyes. Here we go, he thought. “Sure did darlin’, but darn it, Foot Locker and Pizza Hut weren’t hiring,” he said, chuckling a little at the end.

Laura rolled her eyes. “Have you talked to Condi honey? I heard she got that tanker named after her again.”

“If you’re asking if I called her, yep I sure did. But ever since she started at Exxon, I haven’t heard a peep back.”

Laura pressed, “Oh well I’m sure she’s busy. What about Dick, honey? He’s settled back in at Halliburton by now. Have you talked to him?”

“Yeah, couple of weeks ago,” George answered, clearly annoyed. “He just gave me some high falutin’ CEO talk about how his company is worth like a gazillion times more than when he left, so he’s crazy busy. But he’s all worried if the Obama goes and turns off the wars they’ll have to downsize. So he can’t hire anyone new until that shakes out. Look darlin’, I’ve talked to all of ‘em. Dick, Condi, Rummie, Brownie, Gonzalez, Hankie, Ashcroft, Ridge, Stinky Pete, and Cherty. Hell I even talked to that asshole Bolton, but no joy. I mean, it’s a recession darlin’. You can’t blame me for the recession.”

Laura decided to let that one go. “Well then I have great news, George. Footlocker called back for an interview.”

“You’re going.”
